Overview

 The Government of Japan offers scholarships to Sudanese students who wish to study and research in undergraduate and graduate courses at Japanese universities. The Embassy of Japan in Sudan will perform primary screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, written examinations and interviews.

The MEXT Scholarship stands for “The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Scholarship”, meaning the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Scholarship. Also known as “Monbukagakusho,” it is awarded annually to international students from all over the world who wish to study at Japanese universities.

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in Japan at Japanese universities / colleges under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program (MEXT). This scholarship aims to extend the friendship bridge between Japan and Jordan. This scholarship is looking for students who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world. Applicants must apply for the field of study they majored in at the university or a related field. The subjects of their majors must be available in Japanese universities.

Specializations for this opportunity: All fields are available except for traditional entertainment arts such as kabuki and classical Japanese dances, or subjects that require practical training in certain techniques or techniques in factories or companies not included in fields of study under this scholarship program. , Dentistry or welfare science is not permitted to engage in clinical training such as medical care and surgical surgery until a relevant license is obtained from the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare under Japanese laws in force.

 Application for academic year 2022 is going to be open from April 25th, 2021 to May 27th 2021 (14:00 hrs). Interested students are encouraged to refer to the flyers below and submit application documents by the deadline. No late submission will be accepted.

Funding

The MEXT Japan Scholarships is a Fully Funded Scholarships for International Students to Study in Japan for Free. All expenses will be covered by the Japanese government.

  • A monthly allowance of 120,000 yen ($ 1090) for undergraduate students.
  • A monthly allowance of 146,000 yen ($ 1,326) for students enrolling in intensive Japanese language programs and research students.
  • A monthly allowance of 147,000 yen ($ 1,335) for master’s students.
  • A monthly allowance of 148,000 yen ($ 1,344) for PhD students.
  • One-time round-trip travel costs from the student’s country to Narita or Haneda International Airport (transportation costs from the airport to the city in which the student will study will not be covered).
  • Exemption from paying or re-paying registration fees.
  • Exemption from payment of application fees or reimbursement.
  • Exemption from paying full university study costs.
  • An additional living allowance of $ 1,000 per month for housing, food, and travel.

Conditions for submission

  1. Eligibility Criteria for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship 2022:
    • The candidate must be from a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
    • The candidate must be committed to learning the Japanese language.
    • The candidate must be of good health.
    • The applicant must be between 17-25 years old. You also must have completed 12 years of school education or completed courses in a school comparable to a high school (including prospective graduates).
    • The candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at a Japanese institute.
  2. Eligibility Criteria for the MEXT Research Scholarship 2022 (Masters and PhD):
    • The candidate must be from a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
    • The candidate must be under the age of 44.
    • Master’s and PhD students: applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1987.
    • The candidate must be committed to learning the Japanese language.
    • The candidate must be of good health.
    • Candidate must be registered for MA or PhD. Program at a Japanese institute.
    • The candidate must have obtained a bachelor’s degree while applying to the master’s degree program.
    • The candidate must have a master’s degree while applying to the doctoral degree program.

Required Documents

You must have all the required documents. Otherwise, your application will be rejected.

  • MEXT scholarship application form.
  • The highest degree, certified by official stamps.
    • Undergraduate program applicants: 12 years of education.
    • Master’s program applicants: must hold a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Doctoral program applicants: must hold a master’s degree.
  • Note: If the degree is not in English, a notarized copy of the English translation must be obtained.
  • The highest degree of transcript of degrees certified by official stamps. (Including grading system)
    • Undergraduate program applicants: 12 years of education.
    • Master’s program applicants: Bachelor’s degree transcripts.
    • Doctoral program applicants: Master’s degree transcripts must be submitted.
  • Note: If the diploma is not in English, you will be asked for a notarized copy of the translation in English.
  • 2 letters of recommendation must also be submitted, and these must be written by the applicant, advisors, or employers (who are able to assess academic performance and research potential). Also, it must be written in English for research students.
  • A copy of the passport (if available at the time of application).
  • CV (for research students).
  • Photographs.
  • The study plan and a statement of purpose must also be presented. The study plan must be written in the English language. It should also include the primary content motivating the application and background of teaching, research and future study at APU. (For research students)
  • English language proficiency certificate must be submitted. For students whose previous studies were in English, they can submit an English language proficiency certificate from their home university and are exempt from the language test.
  • Academic dissertation or related publications (for research students)
  • Other reference documents (if applicable).

How to apply

  1. The application for this scholarship is done through the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country, you can search for it through mofa.
  2. Visit the website of the Japanese Embassy for your country. Under the Education / Scholarship tab, you will find the MEXT Scholarship.
  3. Then download and fill in the MEXT scholarship application form.
  4. Then send the required documents to the Japanese embassy in your country.
  5. A written test will be taken by the Japanese embassy. You can search for a written quiz with answers on Studyinjapan.
  6. Then the candidates will be interviewed.
  7. Successful candidates will be notified via email or the embassy website.

Generally, you can apply for a Japanese government scholarship in one of two ways:

  • Nomination is through the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.
  • Nomination is through a Japanese university or educational institution where you are accepted to study.

You can apply for the first method by filling out the application form and sending it to the Embassy of Japan in your country. If you choose the second method, you must apply to a number of Japanese universities, then obtain a nomination from one of these universities to obtain the MEXT scholarship.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan, and eligible to obtain a student visa to Japan.

The general application deadlines are between mid-May and early June. However, every embassy or consulate sets its own deadlines, so be sure to check the embassy or consulate webpage for specific application instructions. Your embassy or consulate will explain exactly what to present and how.
